What to Expect at Your First Appointment
The first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation designed to understand your current concerns, history, strengths, circumstances, and goals.
Depending on age and clinical circumstances, the evaluation may include discussion of emotional and behavioral concerns, medical history, development, school or work, relationships, family context, sleep, previous treatment, and other factors affecting daily life.
For children and adolescents, parents or guardians are typically involved as clinically appropriate.
At the end of the evaluation, Dr. Li will discuss impressions, recommendations, and possible next steps. Recommendations may include medication when appropriate, psychotherapy or other referrals, behavioral and lifestyle strategies, family guidance, or coordination with other professionals.
An evaluation does not guarantee that medication will be prescribed.
